Bow & Arrows / Bow & Siver Arrows:
A mighty useful weapon for any adventurer to have. The arrows may be found
or bought at various places, while the Bow itself is found at the East
Palace. The Bow and Arrows are eccential for many places in the game,
including shooting a statue to reveal the way in the 1st palace in the Dark
World, or defeating enemies or bosses that can only be slain by arrows.
After completing something in the game, you get the Light Arrows for the
bow, which are necessary for the final battle. Starting capacity of arrows
is 30, but can go up to a max of 70.
Boomerang:
The boomerang is located quite early in the game, it may be found in Hyrule
Castle Dungeon. It quite useful, freezing most enemies when it hits them,
leaving them completely defenseless against your attacks. During the
adventure, you may end up acquiring the powered-up boomerang (red instead of
blue), this boomerang is like the other, only it is slightly quicker and can
go as far as hitting something across screen.
Hookshot:
The hookshot is imperative in order to carry on with your quest. It's
location is in the Swamp Palace in Dark World in the big chest of the
palace. Like the boomrang, it can freeze some of your opponents and is used
to grab hold of objects far away, whether it be to pull you towards it, or
to pull the item towards you.
Bombs:
Bombs are quite useful at some places, and a necessity at other places.
Bombs can be aquired at multiple places, from shops that sell some to
chests. Bombs, obviously, are used to blow things up, like cracked walls or
enemies. Most walls that can be blown apart make a different sound than
normal walls, to try this, hold B with your sword and walk in the wall, you
should start jabbing the wall, if it's a lower pitch than normal, than blow
away. Starting capacity of bombs is 10, the maximum being 50 bombs.
Mushroom / Magic Powder:
The mushroom can be found in the lost woods, almost smack in the middle of
it. The mushroom has only one purpose, giving it to the Witch at the Witch
shop by Zora's Waterfall. After giving the mushroom, exit the screen the
witch is in, and come back, she's done with it. Go in the Witch shop itself
and grab the Magic Powder. The Magic Powder can be used to turn enemies into
near defenseless creatures, among other things. You won't be using this item
much, but it has its usefulness.
Firerod:
The Firerod is used to shoot a blast of fire straight ahead of you. This has
many uses, for one, you can light up torches that are far away, or you can
burn enemies to a crisp. The Firerod can be obtained in the Skull Woods
Palace inside the big chest, and is imprtant to open up the rest of the way
in that same palace. Usage of your Firerod depends on the remaining magic in
the magic meter.
Icerod:
The Icerod can be found much sooner than its fire counterpart, being found
at the east of Lake Hylia. You'll find it in a cave when you cannot go any
further, but not the already open cave. You can blow the cracked wall right
beside that cave entrance to reveal the entrance to the cave with the
Icerod. With the Icerod, you can freeze your foes in their tracks, breaking
them in bits afterwards. Again, watch you magic meter.
Bombos:
The main use of the Bombos mediallion is to roast all your opponents
opponents on screen, mighty useful for rooms filled with any annoying
buggers you want taken out swiftly. It takes up some magic to use it, so
make sure to watch your magic meter. The Bombos Medaillon can be obtained ,
right beside the Desert in the Light world, going via the Dark world at the
dead end before where the desert entrance usually is, and using your mirror.
You'll need the Book of Mudora and the Master Sword to get it.
Ether:
Like it's flaming counterpart, the Ether medallion hits every enemy on
screen but with a devastating ice blast, freezing every fiend. It too takes
up magic power, so watch the meter carefully. The Ether medallion may be
found at the top of Death Mountain, right to the left of the Mountain Tower.
Like its predecesso, you'll need both the Master Sword and the Book of
Mudora to get it.
Quake:
The Quake Medallion may be acquired as soon as you reach the Dark world the
first time around, instead of heading directly to the East Palace, head
north east towards the Witch Shop, pass the new shop that's there and after
a while you'll get to a circle of stones. Grab any item from around there,
and throw it in, after some event, you'll get it. The Quake Medallion does a
big eartquake on screen, doing the same as the Magic Powder, turning every
foe on screen into defenseless monsters.
Lamp:
The lamp can be gotten at three places: the first in your house right at the
start, the second being in the secret entrance to the castle, and the third
being in Princess Zelda's cell in the dungeon. THe lamp's use is quite
limited, yet is necessary at times, being used to light up torches to reveal
the way or hidden chests. the Lamp uses magic power, so watch out for that
magic meter!
Magic Hammer:
The Magic Hammer has many good points, from crushing your enemies to bits or
pounding in small studs blocking your way. This item can be found in the
first palace of Dark world, the East Palace, in its big chest. The hammer is
also useful to get open up certain places, so it's a good item to have
along, not to mention it's important or else you can't get far in the Dark
world.
Shovel / Flute:
The shovel can only be obtained at two places, while doing the flute quest,
or playing the digging game. It use, as it probably is obvious to all, is to
dig to ground. This spot is shared with the fulte, which in my opinion is
one of the best items out there, once you quest the flute quest. You find it
in the Light world, in Haunted Grove. To make the flute useful, you must
travel to Kakariko Town and play the flute in front of the statue in the
town square. This enables you to warp at 8 set palces in the Light world,
making travelling as easy as slicing up your enemies.
Bug-Catching Net:
The Bug-Catching net is a pretty neat item to have, it's not mandatory, but
quite nice to get nonetheless. It can be acquired in Kakariko village, in a
house with a boy lying in bed. Going close to him makes him wake up and look
at you, and after a short talk, the Bug-Catching Net is yours. With this,
you can catch fairies and put them in your bottles for later usage, or
playing baseball with Agahnim's spell, a must try for a good laugh. (I never
knew about using the sword to repel his spells for a long time, so I always
beat him with this before :p)
Book of Mudora:
The Book of Mudora has only one use, but is imperative to obtain passage to
the Desert Palace and getting the Bombos and Ether Medallions. This book is
the key to deciphering the ancient Hylian language, a language lost in time.
This nifty little book can be found in the library just south of Kakariko
Town on top of a booksehlf. In order to reach it, you must dash with the
Pegasus boots into the bookshelf so the book will fall.
Cane of Someria:
The Cane of Someria is usually the last item you get, it may be found in
Misery Mire, the sixth palace in the Dark world. This uses include making
blocks out of it's magical power, or making platforms appear in thin air. It
uses magic power to make these, so check that magic meter every so often.
Cane of Byrna:
The Cane of Byrna can be found on Death Mountain in the Dark world, in a
cave of it's side. In that cave, you must cross a path of spikes on the
ground, at the end, the cane is in the chest. This cane makes a protective
shield around you for a short time.
Magic Cape:
The Magic Cape renders its user completely invisible. While invisible, you
can walk on spiked flooring, go through obstacles and walk undetected. This
cape can be found in the Cemetary in the Light world, in it's top-right
corner. You must dash into the tombstone in that corner to open the way. The
cape gradually decreases your magic meter, so watch that.
Magic Mirror:
The Magic Mirror is given to you by the old man on Death Mountain after you
escort him to his "place". This mirror enables you to go from the Dark world
to the light world anytime. Not only that, but it can also be used to warp
back to the beginning of any palace.
