Here is our review of The Legend of Zelda:The Minish Cap.
Music/Sound: 9
The Music in this game was great. It got a little
repetitive at times, but overall it was creative, catchy, and had different songs for
when you changed areas. The sound was also very good in this game. You could hear
things like yells, sword clashings, pots braking, as well as the annoying beep
when your hearts are low. Overall I think the music and sound deserve a 9.
Graphics: 10
The Graphics in this game were amazing. They had tremendous detail for a Gameboy
game. You could see Link's eyes follow Ezlo when he talked. You could see rays of
sunlight shining through the forest and shadows of clouds. When you were in water
you could see ripples when you moved. Also, the detail in the faces of the characters
was superb. Zelda and Link could be seen clearly enough to even determine their eye
color. Overall I think Nintendo has done an amazing job with the graphics for this game.
Controls:8.5
The Controls in this game were pretty easy to understand. The game told you how to
execute certain moves, such as sword techniques, and gave you scrolls to help you
remember. I did have some trouble realizing when the pinnacle of my jump was to execute
the down-thrust tehnique. The controls were in the top right corner of the screen,
as usual. However, they could have put a little more clarity into how to do certain things
in the game.
Gameplay: 10
The Gameplay in the Minish Cap was phenomonal. One of the worst mistakes you can make
when making a video game is back-to-back dungeons with nothing in between. However,
this Zelda game made sure not to do that at all. There were always tons of things to do
before a dungeon. And also, there were plenty of places to go back to after you'd completed them
to get a heart piece or chest that you'd been unable to reach with your current items.
There were also the added element of Kinstone Fusion, which I loved right from the start.
It enabled us to get easy money and other items. There was also the Figurine Collecting,
which I found pointless, yet addicting. There were also games you could play in the
town like Fighting Simulators and Treasure Hunting. This game made sure that there
was no shortage of things for you to do while playing it.
Difficulty: 6.5
In my book, a 6.5 difficulty is good, and this game deserved it. I enjoyed
the dungeons a lot, and I don't know
if it was just me, or the game, but I felt that a few were a little too short. However,
the game made sure to please you with everything you had to do. One thing I enjoyed
a lot was the clues they gave you, which would give you a hint, yet a very subtle
one. One such would be "If you can't solve a problem, ram head first into it! -Hagen's
words of wisdom". I also enjoyed the fact that some things in the game made no sense or
were very hard, yet when I finally conquered the challenge, I felt very happy. That's
always a good element in a game.
Frustration: 4
A very frustrating game is probably not a good one. This game shows how much more
fun a game can be with moderate levels of frustration, yet not enough to make you want
to scream and punch a wall(Which isn't a very smart idea, I might add). This game
could frustrate you sometimes when you couldn't figure out you were suppossed to do
something, yet I didn't get frustrated too much.
Replay Value: 8
This is a very fun game, but like many other games, you don't quite enjoy it as much playing
it again as you did the first time. However this game still deserves a 8 because of
all the things you still probably haven't completed and might want to finish up. These
would include Tiger Scrolls, Kinstone Fusions, and getting all Heart Pieces. A game
that always leaves you with something more to aim for at the end is very good, just
like this game. I think a few years from now, I'll pick up Minish Cap again and play
it and have a good time.
Overall: 9
Of all the games there are to play in the world, I'd have to say this is a very
solid game. Great game, with plenty to do. It has stunning graphics, catchy
music, and will keep you coming back for more. I'd say that this game is pretty much
a must buy for any Zelda Fan out there. Enjoy!
